Whisky Cocktails: The Mint Julep.
The Mint Julep, A Modern Classic.
Sure to be found at the Louisville Kentucky Derby, sitting proudly in it's own cup. With bourbon, mint, sugar syrup and ice piled-high, they don't come much more refreshing than this! Be warned, this is a boozy drink, intended to be sipped slowly.

*The high alcohol content means the crushed ice will aid dilution, so if you only have cubes, throw them in a bag and break them up as much as you can)
Add the mint leaves to your julep cup (or cocktail shaker) along with the sugar syrup . Take your muddler and lightly muddle the mint for 5 - 10 seconds to create a lightly infused syrup. Fill with crushed ice until about 3/4 to 4/5 of the way to the top. Pour the bourbon over the ice. Take the cocktail spoon or stirrer and give the drink a good stir. Top the drink off with ice. Garnish with your mint sprigs and throw in a couple of your wheat straws behind the mint - so you still get that mint infusion as you sip.
